Dr. Owings

What is your position within the clinic?
Practice Owner and veterinarian at KPAH

What are your personal origins-how did you come to reside in your current location and position at Kibby Park?
I grew up in the Jackson area and I worked at KPAH as a college student. Drs. Greene and Kirt were instrumental in motivating me to become a veterinarian. Pattie Swartout, LVT, taught me about the importance of excellent nursing care for veterinary patients and was also important in helping me to develop my skills as a veterinary practitioner. I purchased KPAH in 2007 from Dr. Kirt and have loved seeing the practice grow, thanks to our amazing staff, clients, and patients.

Who is in your family and what do you enjoy doing with your family?
My daughter, Miranda is seventeen and is a senior at Lumen Christi. My son, Owen, is nineteen and is a Lumen Christi graduate. Both have a great love for nature and for animals… we have three dogs, three cats, and a breaded dragon at home and two cats which serve as the mascots/managers at KPAH.

What are your personal interests, achievements (inspirations, passions)?
Having served our Jackson Community and our state on several boards and committees in the past, I am currently the President of the Barkley and LuLu Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the sterilization of cats (The Jackson Cat Project) and providing funding for medical and surgical care for pets in our community. I am also a member of the Legislative Advisory Committee for the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association, as well as the MHS Opioid Stewardship Collaborative.

I love spending time with my work colleagues, my friends, and my family. I enjoy traveling and reading, as well as boating and exploring nature. I love dark chocolate and craft cocktails. I am inspired by the devotion and loyalty of my patients and my adoration for my chosen vocation is still growing.

I have lived all over the Eastern part of the US before settling in Michigan in 1999. Just when I was ready to go back to Pennsylvania, I met my husband and here I stay. The family enjoy outdoor activities, crafting, and cooking. The four-legged animals enjoy playing with toys and snuggling.

What are your personal interests, achievements (inspirations, passions)?
I love to geocache, craft, do all things outdoorsy, and camping. One of my biggest accomplishments was going back to school as an adult, wife, mother, and part time employee to fulfill my lifelong dream. One day when I “retire”, I would like to own a dog hospice center. One of my largest passions is watching my daughter play softball and my son playing football and baseball. Their happiness brings me my greatest joy.
