Meet Our Veterinary Team in Jackson, MI

Dr. Halsey’s connection to Kibby Park runs deep. Her family brought their pets here when she was growing up, and she worked as a kennel assistant at the hospital during college. She spent time observing her during veterinary school, which is when she met Dr. Owings. Years later, Dr. Owings called with a job offer, and Dr. Halsey jumped at the chance. The two have worked together happily ever since.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Halsey loves working in her vegetable garden, finding that time outdoors in the sunshine and greenery is deeply relaxing. She also enjoys traveling with her husband, Kit, and most of their trips lead to the UK to visit family and friends. At home, she is joined by daughter Katherine and their three cats, Tucker, Dylan, and Penny Lou.

Dr. Melissa Owings has practiced veterinary medicine for 28 years and leads our hospital as Medical Director. She earned her veterinary degree from the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine and holds a Certified Veterinary Acupuncture degree from the Chi Institute. She grew up in the Jackson area and worked at Kibby Park as a college student before purchasing the practice in 2007.
Dr. Owings values her relationships with patients and their families above almost anything else in the work. She treats communication and compassion as part of the care plan for every patient, weighs each pet’s medical history carefully, and stays current on advances in veterinary medicine so she can offer the best treatment options for each individual animal. She also serves as President of the Barkley and LuLu Foundation, which has helped hundreds of Jackson families afford medical care for their pets.

Outside the clinic, she loves traveling with family and friends, reading, walking, biking, yoga, and hiking. Giving back to the community is a genuine passion of hers.
